Creating an item

Last updated: October 16, 2026

What it does

Create Item opens one long form. It has a card for each part of an item.

The first card takes these fields.

FieldWhat it takes
ProductA picture for the item
TitleThe item’s name
DescriptionDetail shown alongside the item
Unit of MeasureA unit drawn from the units your organisation has set up
This is a physical productA checkbox marking the item as physical
This is a subscriptionA checkbox marking the item as a subscription

Pricing takes the fields below.

FieldWhat it takes
Cost PriceWhat the item costs you
Cost price includes taxA checkbox marking the cost price as tax-inclusive
TaxThe tax rate applied to the item, with the amount it works out to. It starts on your default tax, or None without one
Compare at PriceThe higher price you show a discount against
PriceWhat you sell the item for
Price includes taxA checkbox marking the sell price as tax-inclusive
Purchase CategoryFree text for your purchasing accounts
Sales CategoryFree text for your sales accounts

Lucrii shows the Shipping card only on an item marked as a physical product. It takes a Shipping Weight with its unit, a Shipping Origin Country and an HS Code. Inventory takes the Track inventory for this item checkbox, a SKU and a Barcode. In Variants you set up options such as Size or Colour, as options and variants explains.

The column on the right holds Status, Vendor with its Vendor SKU, and a Product Category and Subcategory.

Before you start

If you leave the page with unsaved changes, Lucrii asks you to confirm first.

Each field stops at its limit as you type or paste. Creating a contact says how Lucrii refuses a longer value.

FieldWhat it takes
TitleUp to 255 characters
DescriptionUp to 10,000 characters
SKU, Barcode, Vendor SKUUp to 100 characters each
Product Category, SubcategoryUp to 100 characters each
Purchase Category, Sales CategoryUp to 100 characters each
Shipping Origin CountryUp to 100 characters
Shipping Harmonized System (HS) CodeUp to 100 characters

The free plan allows 50 items. You can add 2 more past that limit. Then the Create Item button turns off, and its tooltip says to upgrade your plan to continue. A banner above the list warns you as you get close.

Lucrii holds prices in your organisation’s currency, which you set in organisation settings rather than on the item.

You set the default tax in Settings, under Taxes. An item created by Hermes, an MCP client or an import without a tax also gets the default tax.

How to use it

  1. Open the Items list and select Create Item.
  2. Give the item a Title. It is the only field you must fill.
  3. Set the Price, and the Cost Price if you know it.
  4. Look at the Tax. It starts on your default tax, and you can choose another or set it to None.
  5. Tick Track inventory for this item to record on-hand quantities at each location.
  6. Choose the Status. An Active item can go on orders straight away. A Draft item cannot.
  7. Select Create. Lucrii opens the item’s page.

Troubleshooting

An item you created has no variants. Lucrii saves the item first, then its variants. When the variants fail, the only sign is one of two messages, “Failed to create variants.” or “The item was created without its variants.” Add the variants again from the item page.

  • Items and locations: Browse two lists in Inventory, one of the items you buy and sell and one of the locations you keep them in.
  • Pricing, shipping and vendor details: Set an item’s prices and tax, its shipping details, the vendor you buy it from and its categories.
  • Options and variants: Add options such as Size and Colour to an item, and Lucrii makes a variant for every combination, with a price and stock for each.
  • Adjusting stock: Check an item’s quantity at each location on its Inventory card, and raise or lower it outside an order with Adjust Stock.
