What Hermes remembers

What it does

Hermes keeps a fact you give it after the conversation it was given in has ended. It files the fact under a short key with the sentence you gave. The fact also takes one of four categories, which are customer, item, process and general. Ask Hermes to forget something, and it removes the fact by that key.

Hermes files nicknames in a separate list. Tell Hermes that a short name belongs to a person. Later mentions of that name then mean that person.

What Hermes remembers belongs to you inside one organisation. A colleague asking the same question does not get your facts. The same question asked in another organisation does not get them either.

Before you start

Memory stops at 100 facts. Past that, Hermes asks you to forget something before it stores anything else.

A fact can be up to 1,000 characters.

Nicknames stop at 250. At that limit, Hermes can only change who a nickname it keeps refers to.

Hermes matches keys exactly. A fact filed under a key already in use replaces what was there.

Hermes also builds a picture of your business from your records, separate from anything you ask it to keep. Forgetting a fact removes only that fact.

How to use it

  1. Tell Hermes what to keep, with the fact in full. A customer’s standing discount is the kind of thing to keep, and so is the location you receive stock into.
  2. Hermes replies with the key it filed the fact under.
  3. To remove one, ask Hermes to forget that key.
  4. For a nickname, tell Hermes who the short name refers to and give the full name once.

Troubleshooting

You ask Hermes to forget a key with nothing filed under it. Hermes tells you there was nothing to remove.

  • Asking Hermes: Ask Hermes a question about your business from the command palette, which opens on every page of the app.
  • What Hermes can do and change: Ask Hermes to read your records, or to create and change orders, contacts, items, stock, notes, tasks and boards for you.
  • Hermes credits and spending limits: Track the credits Hermes uses against your monthly allowance, and set a spending limit on what your organisation spends beyond it.
